Greetings from the Indiana Association of Prevention Professionals (IAPP) Board of Directors! We would like to share with you the most recent information regarding your professional association:
IAPP Board Elections
At our December 19, 2003 board meeting, the IAPP Board of Directors held the election of officers. As of January 1, 2004, here are the unanimously elected officers of the board:
  » Terri Wedding, President
  » Christine Brown, Vice-President
  » Marlene Giordano, Secretary
  » Ruthie Cooper, Treasurer
We congratulate each of the new officers and look forward to their leadership!
The other board members for 2004 are: Susan Dunker, Steven King, Heather McCarthy, Joe Thayer, Kevin Wallace, Chuck Kime (Newly Elected at the IAPP Annual Meeting) and Sam Soliman (Newly Elected at the IAPP Annual Meeting). Contact information is available at the IAPP website: www.preventionprofessionals.org.
IAPP Board Membership Changes
Sadly, Steve Adams, who has served as the IAPP Board President for a year and a half, and has been an IAPP Board Member since 1998, has resigned from the IAPP Board due to increased responsibilities at work and at home. His position as Director of Strategic Development and Consulting Services at Hoosier Uplands has become more demanding and he also serves on the boards of the Indiana Public Health Association and the recently established Indiana Public Health Institute. Additionally, Steve and his wife have recently welcomed the birth of their second son into their family. The IAPP Board would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Steve for his service on the board, as well as his dedicated leadership of the IAPP since June, 2002. He will be sorely missed!

When Steve Adams submitted his resignation, he recommended to the IAPP Board that Ruthie Cooper, IAPP Treasurer, fill the remainder of Steve’s term on the board, through 2004. The board voted to accept his recommendation, and Ruthie will serve on the board until December 31, 2004.
CPP and QPP Re-certifications
Those with CPP or QPP certifications which were received prior to December 31, 2000 have received forms to apply for re-certification. Most of those who applied prior to December 31st should have received their re-certifications by now. For those who are still in the process of applying, the board has voted to extend a grace period to become re-certified until February 28, 2004. If you have not submitted your application for re-certification, you will need to do so immediately. It may take some time to process the application, so be sure to allow enough time to receive your re-certification before planning Afternoons ROCK in Indiana programs.

If you are certified as a CPP, but have earned less than 50 Continuing Education Units, you have the opportunity to be re-certified as a QPP if you have at least 25 Continuing Education Units, and at least 600 hours of prevention experience since you received your CPP. For any other issues regarding your certification or Continuing Education Units, please contact Diane Siebrase, IAPP coordinator at (317) 398-7299 or iapp@fspp.org.
Training Dates
The Principles of Drug Abuse Prevention, Ethics and Cultural Competency Trainings was held January 26 to 30th, 2004. We expect to schedule trainings again in April and either June or July, 2004. Information will be posted on the IAPP web site www.preventionprofessionals.org under “Training Schedule” when those dates are set. The “Training of Trainers” to facilitate the above trainings has been delayed. Watch for more information on the web site.
Charge It!
To simplify the process of payments for many agencies, the IAPP has recently obtained the ability to receive payments for trainings by credit cards. The IAPP now accepts Visa, Mastercard and Discover.
Indiana Legislation
To follow the legislative activity in the Indiana General Assembly, you can access a free service available through the Legislative Services Agency. You can track them through “Bill Watch”, accessible at www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/. You can track up to five bills through Bill Watch. Information on the Indiana General Assembly is also available at www.state.in.us/legislative. This site includes calendars for both floor sessions and committee meetings for both houses, as well as a complete listing of introduced bulls and a directory of all legislators.
2004 Many Voices, One Vision Conference
Now that you have your 2004 calendar, mark it for the Many Voices, One Vision conference. It will be held August 3rd – 5th, 2004 and the conference will be moved to the Indiana Convention Center across from the Westin in order to accommodate larger workshops.
